Dr. Michael Damian was born in Romania and received his Master degree in composition and conducting from the Bucharest Academy of Music. His Ph.D. in composition and musicology was completed at the Bar Ilan University in 2001. After his immigration to Israel in 1983 Michael Damian joined the Israel Association of Composers; he won the Clairmont Prize for composition in 1985, the Prime Minister's Composition Prize in 2004 and the A.C.U.M. Prize in 2011. His compositions have been performed by many orchestras and ensembles in Israel and abroad, among them: the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the "Kinneret" string quartet, the 21 Century Ensemble, the Ensemble for Contemporary Music in Pescara-Italy, the Munster Symphony Orchestra-Germany, the ALEA III Ensemble in Boston-USA, the Philharmonic Quartet in Novosibirsk- Russia, the Bucharest Radio Symphony Orchestra-Romania, the Satu-Mare and the Jassy Philharmonic orchestras - Romania

Michael Damian is also an appreciated conductor, especially of contemporary music, formerly the Assistant chief conductor at the JSO for the 2007- 8 and the 2009 -10 seasons.
